In this workshop you will experience and understand why and how national and organisational culture influences you and your colleagues, customers and suppliers from around the world in different ways. In particular, you will discover how and why you and members of other cultures communicate, work and manage in the way you and they do.

You will begin to develop strategies, skills and attitudes which will help you to handle the differences and use the potentials of working across cultures. In particular the workshop will focus on:

Knowledge and awareness

  • Culture and its significance for interaction in international settings
  • The challenge of language
  • Communication styles across cultures
  • Task and relationship communication across cultures

  • Writing appropriate and effective emails across cultures
  • Clarity skills when using English as a foreign language

Qualities and attitudes

  • Interpersonal openness
  • Behavioural flexibility
  • Self-awareness

The language of the workshop and its supporting materials and exercises will be English as the language of international business and management.

At the end of the workshop you will receive a copy of the book The Mindful International Manager. How To Work Effectively Across Cultures by Jeremy Comfort and Peter Franklin as further support for your international work.
